While some drivers were fighting for another victory and valuable playoff points, others entered the Dollar Tree 301 knowing that every position could make the difference between advancing to the Chase or missing out on the championship battle.
In the end, Ryan Blaney once again emerged as the biggest name of the weekend.
The Team Penske driver captured his second consecutive win at New Hampshire, his third victory of the 2026 season and the 20th of his NASCAR Cup Series career. Blaney led 115 of the 301 laps and held off Bubba Wallace by just 0.586 seconds after a race featuring rain, different tire strategies, nine caution periods and several changes at the front.
More importantly, the victory came at a critical point in the championship.
With the Chase approaching, Penske appears to be finding its best form at exactly the right time.
A race that began in wet conditions
New Hampshire did not produce a conventional race.
Rain changed the opening phase of the Dollar Tree 301, forcing the field to use Goodyear wet-weather tires before the track gradually became suitable for slicks.
The opening laps were particularly difficult.
Pole sitter Tyler Reddick spun on the first lap in the slippery conditions, bringing out the first caution.

With five laps remaining, however, a brake lock-up compromised his attempt to make a move for the lead.

Christopher Bell finished fourth, followed by Kyle Larson.
For Bell, the result represented another strong performance and his third top-five finish in the last four races.
Larson, the reigning Cup Series champion, finished fifth and collected another important haul of points.
The result also carried additional significance: Larson mathematically secured his place in the 2026 Chase.
Hendrick Motorsports will therefore once again have its defending champion in the fight for the title.
Hamlin secures the No. 1 Chase seed
While Blaney celebrated another victory, Denny Hamlin had another reason to be pleased.
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver finished seventh and mathematically secured the No. 1 seed for the 2026 Chase.

Austin Cindric enters Daytona in 15th place, but his position is not completely secure.
Shane van Gisbergen sits immediately behind him and has a much smaller margin separating him from the cut line.
For both drivers, Daytona will require a balance between aggression and survival.
Going for every possible position can produce a huge points gain.
But one incident can erase an entire season of work.
